Welcome to the first in my Bedtime Stories series. I am a Librarian therefore it comes with the territory that I have always read with Little Man and he does have a genuine love for books. However recently I have introduced a proper bedtime storytime. He sits tucked up in bed and I sit next to him reading a story. I can honestly say it is my favourite part of our day, such a peaceful and special time for us to share. He has started to develop some favourites so I thought I would share them with you.
Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson – A lovely book about a butterfly helping a baby monkey find his mummy. It is a rhyming story and is a joy to read aloud. This is a firm favourite with Little Man.
Peace at Last by Jill Murphy – I purchased this book because my Mum used to read it to me as a child. Little Man loves it as much as I did. It is about Mr Bear trying to get to sleep in every room of the house, in every room there are distractions and noises. Little Man especially enjoys making the noises. My Mum read it to Little Man one evening last week, it was such a special Granny & Grandson moment as she remembered reading it to me.
The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr – I’m sure everyone knows this old favourite about the tiger who visits Sophie and her Mummy and eats them out of house and home. Little Man understands the humour in this book and likes it when the tiger drinks Daddys beer!!
These are just 3 of our bedtime reads but if you’ve not tried them with your toddler, I’d strongly recommend them. I think it so important to read to our children. I’d love to hear some suggestions of new books for us to try at bedtime.
