If you read my tweets you will know that World Book Day 2015 was a busy one for me. It is in fact one of my favourite days. Kids dress up as super cute book characters and we get to talk about reading all day, what’s not to love?!
My World Book Day started at 7am dressing my 2 year old in a Tiger Who Came To Tea outfit, he is not a fan of costumes so my Mum helped me to make him a top with said tiger on. I say she helped me, she made it. I printed out the tigers face though, points for me too? She crocheted (you can tell I have never done this type or any type of needlework by the fact that I have just had to look up how to spell it!) orange stripes onto a plain black top, added a white tiger chest and sewed on the tigers face. Little Man loved it. Slight costume fail though was by the end of the day Little Man has started to undo his tiger stripes! Anyway, costume on off he went to nursery clutching his book and from what I can gather had a great day.
The next part of my World Book Day was at work, I am a School Librarian and my friends & I celebrated by wearing matching Hogwarts t-shirts courtesy of Primark. I won’t put the picture on here but you can find it on my Twitter page. We had a grand old day with a decorated Library and lots of fun activities for the kids.
One thing I love about World Book Day is so many people get involved, many many schools across the country take part by sharing their favourite books and dressing up. My Facebook feed was filled with cute little kids dressed up as Goldilocks, Harry Potter, Horrid Henry, Red Riding Hood and Disney characters (it is a whole new argument as to whether Disney type costumes are to be looked down upon or not). Reading is crucial but not only that it is wonderful and this one day every year is great for putting down the iPads and getting involved in good old fashioned books. You can’t beat it.
I hope you and your kids had wonderful World Book Days. Let’s do it all again next year!
