Counting the Sleeps

As I have mentioned in many posts my husband G works away; he usually leaves on a Monday morning and comes home late Thursday evening. This has always been something that Little Man has just accepted until recently. However, now he has started asking me where Daddy is and when I say he is at work, he asks me why. He is still too young to understand about Daddy earning the pennies and him having to stay away because his job takes him all over the country.

I wanted to have something physical that Little Man could use to count down the sleeps till Daddy is home. I hope that when he is a bit older 3 sleeps won’t sound too long if he is missing him. I came across a lovely lady called Andrea on Twitter under her business name of Hoppy-wood who makes handmade wooden items. I saw one on her Twitter page; a picture of a sign she had done for a Daddy who works away in the RAF and thought something similar would be great for Little Man. I emailed her and between us we came up with the idea of using dinosaurs and cars as the theme – 2 of Little Man’s most favourite things!  All the way through the process of making it, Andrea sent me updated pictures of what the plaque looked like which was great and here is the finished product.

Little Man is thrilled with it and so am I, G has been home for a week so we haven’t had chance to use it yet but I have chalk at the ready and the plaque hanging on Little Man’s wardrobe for when he goes away on Monday. I know Little Man will love counting down the sleeps till his Daddy is home.

Andrea didn’t ask me for a review but I loved what she did for us so much and it was such a personal service that I wanted to share it with you. You can find Hoppy-wood on Facebook and Twitter. If you are looking for something a bit different or have an idea for something that is very personal to you, she is definitely worth a look.

Sending my thanks to Andrea for making a 2 year old very happy.

Have a lovely day!

Aww thats lovely we have something similar as hubby is in the raf. Last time he went away on a big tour I filled a jar with jelly beans, my boys got one each for each day their dad was away and I just kept telling them that once the jar was empty Daddy would be home, it really helped them to understand at a younger age x. #mummymonday

What a good idea. My husband used to work away too – leaving on a Monday and returning on a Fri evening or Saturday morning. This would have been ideal for the children back then! Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested
