Welcome back to my Bedtime Story of the Month series. When I am not being a Mummy or a Blogger I am a School Librarian for a load of teenagers. I see every day why it is so important to read to our little ones as early as possible. I can’t stress enough how much of a difference reading to and with your young children makes for them later in life. So with this in mind I thought I would begin to share some favourite books in our house Every month I will share a new story that we have been enjoying at bedtime.. Little Man has a bedtime story every night; it is one of my favourite parts of the day and really helps to settle him.
So lets get started for January. This is a fairly new favourite in our house but it’s a good one, it is Stick Man by Julia Donaldson.
After this Christmas, if you hadn’t heard of Stick Man, I am sure you have now as it was made into a great little mini film on BBC1. Stick Man is all about a stick man who goes off for a run one day and doesn’t return back to his family tree. He encounters all sorts of problems and is used for all sorts of stick related activities. He finally gets rescued by Santa who takes him back to his Stick Lady Love (love that name) and his kids. He gets played with by a dog, used as a flag for a sandcastle and many more. It is just a lovely story.
The illustrations are beautiful and really make the story come alive. It is a rhyming story which is a type I love to read and Little Man loves to have read to him. He is able to remember bits of the story and quite often reenacts Stick Man when he is playing. He watched the TV version on Christmas Day and loved seeing it all come to life on the screen. Although we haven’t been reading this story for long, I think we will be reading it for years to come. It is beautiful and a perfect one for bedtime with a lovely happy ending.
We are always on the lookout for new bedtime stories so please let me know if you have any recommendations.
Have a lovely day.
