Bedtime Story of the Month – April – Giraffe’s Can’t Dance

Bedtime (1)

Welcome back to my Bedtime Story of the Month series. When I am not being a Mummy or a Blogger I am a School Librarian for a load of teenagers. I see every day why it is so important to read to our little ones as early as possible. I can’t stress enough how much of a difference reading to and with your young children makes for them later in life. So with this in mind I thought I would begin to share some favourite books in our house Every month I will share a new story that we have been enjoying at bedtime.. Little Man has a bedtime story every night; it is one of my favourite parts of the day and really helps to settle him.

So here we are in April, I think I may have missed a couple of these posts due to the dreaded morning sickness so apologies for that. Never fear though I have a good one for you! This months bedtime story is Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae & Guy Parker-Rees.

Little Man was given Giraffes Can’t Dance as a present, I had heard of the story before but never read it. What an endearing story it is. It is based around a clumsy giraffe called Gerald who gets told by his friends that he can’t dance. He goes off on his own and meets a cricket who teaches him about finding his own way to dance. It is such a lovely story with a lovely message about having self confidence.

The illustrations are really lovely and Little Man loves looking at the pictures. The story is a written with rhyme and if you have read any of my previous posts you will know I love a good rhyming book. I find them so much easier to read and find Little Man responds well to them too. He can sometimes finish the sentances because of the rhyme. This was a lovely book with a lovely message. A perfect bedtime story for winding down.

We are always on the lookout for new bedtime stories so please let me know if you have any recommendations.

Have a lovely day.
