Having morning sickness pretty much constantly since I was 7 weeks pregnant has altered my routine quite a lot. On the days where it is just myself and Little Man I have had to rethink our days and think of ways to keep him entertained. I think it is fair to say I am very lucky in the fact that to a certain extent Little Man understands that Mummy is poorly but when it has gone on for as long as mine has it understandably gets a bit frustrating for him.
On the really bad days, moving from the sofa to do anything other than the essentials has been hard and not pleasant so I have started using some activities just for the days when I am really poorly; things I can do from the sofa but we can still do together. I will also point out at this stage that I have made full use of his tablet and the TV too; a parents got to do what a parents got to do to get through the day and if that means having an afternooon in front of CBeebies then so be it.
For the other times here are my 3 things to do with a 3 year old when you’re poorly.
Treasure Hunts – This is a great one for 3 year olds. Little Man loves to play games now where we hide things and he has to find it so a twist on this when you are too poorly to move is to send them off round the house (safely of course) to fetch random house hold items. It could be a peg or a book or maybe a pack of wipes. Little Man really loves to do this when I count down from 10 and he has to race to find it.
Magazines/Stickers – Little Man has always enjoyed stickers. When he was little he would just stick them anyway but now I find the CBeebies type magazines really good. They are overpriced but now he has started learning his numbers and letters workbooks like this with characters he recognise are really good! And of course I can do this from the sofa while he sits at his little table and chairs next to me.
Play-Doh – I have had Play-Doh in the house since Little Man was around 12 months but it is only recently he has started to ask for it a bit more. Another great activity to do either sat at the table with them if you can manage it or just set them up and then go and lie down with them in eye line in case they eat it! Now the weather is a bit better I have been setting up the Play-Doh outside for Little Man.
I hope these ideas help anyone who is struggling with morning sickness and another child or just if you are poorly. As I said before we make full use of the TV, tablet, books, etc but these ideas are a few slightly different ones.
Do you have any I could add to the list?
