Bedtime Story of the Month – June – Peace At Last

Bedtime (1)

Welcome back to my Bedtime Story of the Month series. When I am not being a Mummy or a Blogger I am a School Librarian for a load of teenagers. I see every day why it is so important to read to our little ones as early as possible. I can’t stress enough how much of a difference reading to and with your young children makes for them later in life. So with this in mind I thought I would begin to share some favourite books in our house Every month I will share a new story that we have been enjoying at bedtime.. Little Man has a bedtime story every night; it is one of my favourite parts of the day and really helps to settle him.

So here we are in June, I think I may have missed a couple of these posts again due to pregnancy so apologies for that. This months bedtime story is Peace at Last by Jill Murphy.

Peace at Last is an oldie but a goodie. My Mum used to run a playgroup when I was little and I remember her reading this book to the kids there. It is now a firm favourite in our house too especially at bedtime. It is about Mr Bear who just wants to get some sleep however, every room he goes in to to sleep he encounters different noises. Finally he gets some peace at the end and his alarm goes off. Oh, don’t we know the feeling all too well?!

As with all Jill Murphy books the illustrations in Peace at Last  are very endearing. Children get to make the sounds of each noise that Mr Bear comes across and then repeat his phrase about not being able to stand the noise at the end of each page. Little Man loves that part and the fact that he knows what’s coming. It can get a bit excitable for bedtime but it is a firm bedtime favurite here and comes highly recommended!

We are always on the lookout for new bedtime stories so please let me know if you have any recommendations.

Have a lovely day.
