It sounds a really simple thing to do doesn’t it? Embracing the good should be easy; you enjoy all the happiness life has to offer, of course you do. But sometimes it is easier said than done when you have kids. You get bogged down in the details or the days where it all went wrong. When it wasn’t your finest parenting hour. That’s okay. That’s normal. Believe me, I have done my fair share of being bogged down lately. With big decisions to make affecting all of us life has seemed a lot more stressful of late. Add in Little Man deciding that before 5am is the best time to wake up in the morning and nearly 3 weeks of illness in the house I think it’s fair to say I haven’t been embracing the good. So yesterday, the first day of the half term holidays I decided to do just that. We woke up to pouring rain but it brightened up. So we pulled out the waterproofs and wellies and headed to a nearby garden centre for their pumpkin trail.
My boy has become a little screen addict lately and it was so nice to be out in the fresh air without him moaning about it first. He really enjoyed himself and to top it off behaved perfectly. Something else which has been testing me lately too. School has taken it’s toll on him and he has been so tired and on a very short fuse. Anyway after a good (rather damp) walk, we headed to look at the Christmas stuff inside. I mean, who can’t be cheered up by singing reindeers, a lot of Christmas decorations and a random Christmas plane hanging from the ceiling?! We went home for lunch and Little Man did some reading while Little Lady napped. He actually read! I embraced the proud Mummy in me too. I love how much he has learnt since being in school.
So yes, the good has firmly been embraced. Today is a new day and could be filled with not so good but it was so nice to just enjoy them for a while.
