One of the biggest techniques I use to tame my anxiety is distraction. If I feel it coming on I tend to change what I am doing or do something I know will use all of my concentration and block out the anxious thoughts. Adult colouring was something I had read was a good thing for this but I had never tried it until recently. The lovely people at Crafter’s Companion sent me a lovely bundle of their Spectrum Noir colouring sets for me to give colouring a go to help my anxiety.
The Spectrum Noir colouring books are nothing but beautiful. They are no ordinary colouring books at all. The two I received had beautiful detail including foil sections and glitter parts too which could be coloured over. They also do a card making kit which is just as lovely. It comes with everything you need to make the cards yourself including beautiful designs to colour. There are then card inserts and the envelopes too.
The pens and pencils from Spectrum Noir come in gorgeous colours. I especially liked the spring colours of the markers. They were really easy to colour with and looked really beautiful on the page.
What really worked for me with these was the level of detail in them. I really did need to use a lot of concentration when colouring. I found the whole experience quite addictive and very soothing and once I started I wanted to do more. They are different to any other adult colouring sets I have seen and the added bit of sparkle and glam really makes them super special.
So did it help my anxiety? Yes I think it did. The act of sitting down and doing something practical really helped when my brain started to run away with me. What I also found was that having an end product that I had created really helped too. I didn’t feel like my anxiety had made me waste time. I genuinely felt a lot calmer after colouring. Of course I now have some lovely cards to use for people too which is an added bonus!
If you would like to see more of the Spectrum Noir range at Crafter’s Companion head over to their website. I would definitely recommend giving them a go if you suffer from anxiety but also if you just really enjoy colouring!
I was sent these products in return for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
