A Summer Holiday to Ruda
For this years summer holiday we decided to go for familiarity. We had visited the Parkdean site Ruda in Croyde, Devon twice last year and completely fell in love with the area. We did look at other options of places to go but we couldn’t resist going back this year. As a family we are big fans of UK caravan holidays. They aren’t for everyone but for us they are perfect. Little Man especially loves staying in a caravan and as a family we love Devon and Cornwall. We have visited quite a few Parkdean holiday parks now and they have become our go to for caravan holidays.
Last year we had two really lovely holidays and this year was no different. We stayed in the Trimstone caravan which was one of the nicest caravans I have ever stayed in. It had a good size living space, dining area and kitchen and then 3 bedrooms. The kids bedrooms had twin beds in them and good storage space to keep the insane amount of stuff we had taken with us. The main bathroom was a good size with a shower and then the main bedroom had a little en-suite toilet in there too. The caravan had a decking space too which was a real plus point for us as the kids could play safely outside.
The park itself has some great facilities. There are plenty of food options including a little Italian restaurant and a pub. We ate twice at the pub and the kids both ate their dinners which with one fussy eater and one toddler is a win in my book! There is a shop on site too for all your essentials and a pool. The swimming pool is one of Little Man’s favourite parts of the site. It is an adventure pool so has loads of water slides and then rapids too. The kids absolutely loved the swimming pool, it was great to see how Little Man’s confidence in the water had grown since he has been having swimming lessons. The site also has two play parks which we spent a lot of time at. There was one a stones throw away from our caravan so that was great to kill half an hour or burn off some energy. We also went to the entertainment for the kids on some of the evenings where the kids got to meet Sid the Seagull and Lizzie the Lizard. The entertainment for our age kids was great and both of our kids danced the evening away at the disco!
Croyde itself is gorgeous. The beach was a 10 minute walk from our caravan; it was a super clean beach and perfect for kids with rock pools galore. Little Man has never been a huge fan of the sea but loved it this time. There is something really special about seeing your little one run freely on the beach. Croyde beach has become my happy place and myself and G spent a couple of evenings (separately) down there watching the sunset. The park is a 15 minute walk from Croyde village where there are some lovely cafes and restaurants and a few shops too. It is a quaint little place with loads of character and lots of friendly people.
Whilst we were on holiday it was our girls second birthday. This, as always with these milestones was a bittersweet day for us and this year I in particular wanted to spend it quietly in our happy place. We spent the morning with Little Lady opening presents and then headed to Saunton Sands which is just down the road to play on the beach. We wrote Heidi’s name in the sand and had some reflective time which is just what we needed. We went to the entertainment in the evening and all in all I think it was a pretty perfect 2nd birthday for our girls.
I would really recommend going to Ruda for a family holiday, to us it was a perfect holiday. We had lots of relaxing times and made some really lovely memories too.
Just as a side note, we paid and booked this holiday ourselves. I just wanted to share it with you because we love it so much.
