There are only 13 sleeps till the big day; Christmas really has crept up on me this December! So to bring a bit of festive cheer and chat I am doing The Christmas Tag. I was tagged by the lovely Jules over at Pondering Parenthood so let’s get started.
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
Love Actually is Christmas to me. I love when they start showing it on TV, you know then that Christmas is just round the corner. From the lovely stories to the broken hearts to the silly songs I love it all!
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
Christmas Day is spent at home; we have a no going out rule and have always really enjoyed a very chilled Christmas Day.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
When I was younger I had a lot of Christmas holidays away in places like the Lake District so I’m all for a Christmas away. I think the ultimate dream for me is Christmas at Disney, maybe not actual Christmas Day but I would love to experience the build up to Christmas there.
Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
We do a bit of both as my husbands family follow Polish traditions at Christmas. This means some Christmas presents on Christmas Eve at a family get together in the evening called Wigilia.
Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
My first Christmas as a Mummy is my favourite Christmas memory for sure. Little Man was only 3 months and hadn’t a clue but I loved doing all the things I had been dreaming about doing with my own children for the first time.
Be honest: Do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
I actually really like giving. I love choosing really personal presents that I think that person would love. It’s so nice to hear that they love it or that they think it is a thoughtful present.
Favourite festive food?
A big tin of Quality Street. I like a mince pie and I enjoy a roast but Christmas is all about the Christmas chocolate for me. Although let’s not get into the smaller tins; that’s a blog post in itself!
Favourite Christmas scents?
A Snow Kissed Yankee Candle is one of my most loved Christmas scents. You know when you smell that that Christmas is in the air!
Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
As I mentioned earlier we celebrate the Polish Christmas Eve tradition of Wigilia. We get together with family; eat amazing traditional polish food and open presents all together. Once we are home the kids put out their treats for Santa, put on their Christmas pyjamas and sprinkle reindeer food outside. We always read The Night Before Christmas too.
What tops your tree?
A gorgeous red star.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Yes! I am super lucky that as a child I had quite a few. Being in the middle of nowhere in the freezing cold Lake District often bought a snowy Christmas for me. It is one of the most magical things to experience as a child and I treasure those memories.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
I really like Kelly Clarkson Underneath the Tree; the kids and I enjoy many a kitchen disco to that one at this time of year. I do love a Christmas carol though and love Silent Night especially when it’s sung in a Christmas nativity! So cute!
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
It’s a fake one. I am terrible at keeping plants alive and I fear I would be no different with a Christmas tree so we play it safe and have a pretend one!
Are you a professional present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
I am the worst present wrapper. I start with good intentions but I’m so bad at it. I use too much paper, get in a tangle with sellotape and end up getting very frustrated!
What makes the holidays special for you?
My kids. They bring the Christmas magic and really, that’s what it’s all about.
