5 Things To Do The Night Before The School Run including free printable
I don’t know about you but the morning school runs are one of the trickiest parts of my day. There is so much to do in such a short space of time especially if you have snoozed your alarm a few times. This hectic time of day is something we can’t really avoid but we can make it easier for ourselves and the key is in the preparation. By adding just five minutes onto your evening list of jobs after the kids are in bed you can make school run mornings so much calmer. Here are 5 things to do the night before the school run to make it run smoothly.
Laying the table with all the breakfast things before you go to bed is one less job to do in the morning. Pop the cereal boxes out, the bowls and spoons on the table and even the teabag in your mug. The kids can sit straight down and you can sort it without getting things out the cupboard or finding the spoon they like! If they are old enough it also means they can just help themselves once they are sat down.
Lay out everyone’s outfits
Using a basket system really helps with getting everyone’s clothes and shoes ready for the morning. Pop everything the kids will need to get dressed into their own basket. For older ones you can just hand them the basket and for younger ones you have everything you need to hand to get them dressed. Plan your outfit for the next day so there are no panics about what you are going to wear, don’t forget to check the weather forecast though!
If the kids have packed lunches, snacks or water bottles to take to school then get those ready the night before too. I tend to do this when I’m clearing up after dinner. Take the lunch stuff from that day out and pop the next days lunch straight back in and pop it in the fridge. If there are things that have to be prepared in the morning then make sure that is all ready for you to grab too.
Set up a checklist
This checklist system works especially well for younger children. There are usually basic things like teeth brushing that need doing every morning but sometimes there can be a battle to get the kids to do. Using a checklist for them to tick off everything as they do it gives them a little activity to do as they are getting ready. You could see who can tick everything off first or give a sticker on a reward chart if they do everything with no fuss. You can grab the checklist in the image below at the bottom of this post. Just print it, laminate it and use a wipe off pen so you can use it every morning.
Deal with school admin
There is always a letter to sign, money to be paid or a reading diary to be filled in so make sure all of this is done the night before so you don’t end up scrabbling around in the morning for change or even worse forgetting to hand an important letter in.
So there are the top 5 things to do the night before to help the school run be a smooth and calm experience for everyone especially you! There will always be the crazy moments; the tantrums, the persuading off a screen or the inevitable lost item but hopefully by preparing the night before at least you know the important things are done.
